Looking for Love? Win $100!

Did you know I met my hubby online???

I did, 12 years ago.

And did you know it’s becoming more and more common for people to meet online? Whether it’s due to busy work schedules or maybe having a hard time finding someone with the same interests.

Finding someone online can be fun because it takes away the surprises you would have in a blind date. It’s almost like you're interviewing the person before you meet in real life. I’m sure a lot of you have heard of eHarmony. It’s one of the top dating sites on the web right now. While I did not meet my husband on that particular site, I know a few folks who did and have had great success!

My friend Amber met her future husband a few years ago through eHarmony. They now have two boys and are happily married! I talked to Amber a little bit about her experience with eHarmony, and this is what she told me:

Q: What made you choose eHarmony over other dating sites?

A: I didn’t really want to sign up, but after a few friends encouraged me I decided to give it a try. I liked the idea of being able to preview people and pick and choose guys by interests. I also felt like eHarmony had a good success rate with matching people up.

Q: What was your first date like?

A: He was one of the first matches I had on the site. We knew it was "it" from the minute we met. He picked me up at the end of my dad's driveway, and we went to dinner. We sat on the patio and had a nice seafood dinner while the band played, and I did my best to keep the conversation going as he was super shy. We continued our date by hitting up the bowling alley before moving on to a pool hall. We ended up back at my dad's house to sit at the bar and have cereal at midnight. We spent the next few hours just talking and enjoying each other’s company. The next day we went on another date, and I made the first move by kissing him, and the rest is history.

Q: How did you know he was “The One”?

A: He came over after work on our third date, and I told him I didn't want him to leave. And he never left!
So as you can see, meeting a guy online is not as scary as it sounds. There are actually some really great people out there! They are probably having just as hard a time finding the right girl. eHarmony helps move the process along by matching you up with the perfect mate! All you have to do is fill out your profile and answer some questions about yourself. I bet you’ll be surprised at the responses you get from some really nice people.

When I first told people I met my husband online I have to tell you I was a bit embarrassed. I thought people would think that was crazy! As it turns out a lot of my friends have met their spouses online, and it’s very common. It’s becoming harder and harder to meet people face to face with our busy lifestyles. eHarmony does all the leg work for you so all you have to do is sign up and wait for a response. You’ll never know if you don’t give it a shot! Your true love could be out there, just waiting.

Communication is the most important trait to me. From the early days when you're learning everything about the other person, to coordinating schedules with the kiddos, to the later years when you aren't so busy... Having a person with good communication makes everyday go by easier.

I think the most important character trait in a partner is tenacity. When the going gets tough (as is bound to happen in any relationship), you need someone who won’t give up just because things are hard. You need someone who will stick with you through thick and thin.

Being honest and trustworthy are, by far, the most important traits to have (IMO!). If you can't trust someone you will never have a solid foundation to build a relationship on.

Sara said...

Honesty and integrity are the most important. That, and loving them for who they are and not who you want them to become.

Honesty is the most important trait to me. Even if something is going to hurt me, I'd rather him be honest than me never know or find out later that he was keeping it from me.

The most important character trait my partner must have is honesty. That is because I believe all relationships build on trust. I don’t think I can trust someone that’s not honest. 
