Practice makes Better

Hello Fellow Bloggers!

As with all things new, the first time can bring on a flood of emotions which you never knew you had. Emotions such as fear, awkwardness, excitement, confidence, sadness, love, and on and on the list could go. I, for one, know that while I type these very lines, a sense of awe falls over me.

“Why?” you ask.

Well, this is my very first time to write a post! I have no idea how y’all do this every day. I’ve sat here for almost 10 minutes now, writing a few words, holding down the delete key, writing something else, and then slamming the delete key again. And so, as I’ve already stated, a sense of awe has fallen over me. I’m amazed at how everyone who has their own blog manages to think of something to say. Quite frankly, I’m envious.

Countless days I’ve watched Becky stare at this very screen and hammer something out in a matter of minutes. Here I am, staring at that same cursor (blink…blink…blink), looking at the clock (15 minutes, now), and wondering how I’ve only managed to type three paragraphs. What’s the old saying --- Practice makes perfect? I don’t think so, at least, not for me. I think I’ll use “practice makes better”. Oh well, next time I’ll be better at this. In fact, I’ll shoot for 3 paragraphs in 10 minutes!

“Next time?” you ask.

Yes! My reason for posting today is so that when our son is born, I’ll be able to post something to keep all you bloggy buddies updated on the birth and Becky’s status. As many of you know, this blog was originally started to keep Becky’s family updated on her life (since I moved her away from Arkansas to Texas). Slowly, she began meeting each of you and you became a semi-support group as she coped with being away from her family for the first time in her life. It’s amazed me that over the past 4 years, how many friends she’s made on here.

I have to be honest. When this whole blog thing started, I didn’t understand her reasons for spending so much time talking with people she didn’t even know. I wondered how this could ever amount to anything and I quickly dismissed it as a waste of time. However, as the months went by, I found myself reading her daily posts and the comments that followed. I began to find her blog interesting. I began to get to know many of you through your comments you’d leave. And, I began to finally understand that these friends, this semi-support group, had turned to “family”. This blog started with the intentions of updating family, and in the same spirit, that’s exactly what it does it does today! Again, I’m awed.

So, in keeping with the spirit of this blog (and post), I want to ask question. What was your very first post about? Can you remember how you felt while writing it? What have you learned since then that has helped in your daily posting?

Hopefully, this wasn’t too boring for all you “followers” out there and I look forward to updating you when the time comes. Thank you for your support, prayers, and encouragement. I hope one day we can return the many blessings y’all have given us. After all, that’s what “family” is for.

Many blessings to you all,
--Terence

Hi Terence,
Thanks for writing! My first post was actually about socks!! LOL. Sounds so stupid now! About missing socks in the laundry. The writing has gotten easier over time and I get thrilled when someone follows me!! It makes my day! I guess we will get to know you better over the next couple of months.

Hello Terence!!

Welcome! I think this was a great first post! My first post was a "I have no idea what I'm doing and I'm new at this" type of post.... So you are doing perfectly fine! :-) Can't wait to hear the updates about Baby Connor when he's born!!

Aw, what a sweet Daddy-to-be! My Husband felt the same way about blogging, but has since learned that we're quite the community. :)
I've been blogging for so long I honestly can't remember what I first wrote. Can't wait to see your little bundle of j(b)oy!

Well done! You are braver than me. I am so desperate to start a blog but cannot commit to the last step. I am not shy but the thought of putting myself out there as a blog is scary!

Everyone of us in blog-land is so proud of you doing this. Becky is blessed to have such a supportive husband.

My first blog was to vent about being pregnant, lol. I was so tired of strangers touching my belly, people telling me how big I was, and feeling like a water balloon. I had to vent or someone was going to get hurt. :)

Blogging is STILL my therapy.

Hi Terence! Nice to "meet" you! I don't recall what my first post was about to be honest, but wanted to say hello to a fellow Arkansan! Can't wait to see the baby when he arrives. P.S. Glad to know you "came" around to understanding this wonderful blogging world friendships. Please let Becky know that I have nominated her for an award today and to check out my blog when she gets a chance!

Hello Terrence!

I think it's great that you're gonna inform us on the delivery and such! Awesome!

My first post... hmm, I believe it was a little intro about my life at that current moment - I was just about to get married (for a 2nd time) and was scared and excited!

Hi! :)

Can't wait to see the post about the delivery!!!

My first post was just about getting started blogging...I never knew what it would turn into, either. It's overwhelming the number of friends I've made...

Can't wait to see the updates about the baby!!

Oh, that was just plain sweet!

My first, I believe, was an introduction and explaination of why I wanted to blog.

Praying for y'all!!

Lights! Camera! Action! Who says life is not more complicated than it was 50 years ago. Wait a minute, let's make that 75 years ago. I was actually alive 50 years ago, so that's not really that far back, eh? Mom and I dropped by Babys R Us yesterday, and it looked more like a Playground for Grown-Ups With Money than a kids store. Like you, I spent some of yesterday the electronic communications aspect for that moment when your sister hits the labor stage - figuring out which app to use to upload pix to Facebook, and how to create a couple of e-mail groups so we can employ instant reporting techniques to the situation. Man, I wish there was an easier way to create a text-message group on iphone. C'mon, Steve Jobs! Anyway, to all the "did I remember my toothbrush?" preparations, now women have to train their guys on how to post to their blog, etc. (Yesterday I found myself asking for Mom's username/password for Facebook, 'cause I'm sure we'll have to post over there, as well, and I think Mom's going to be tied up with her daughter when the moment's ripe for sending pix.) So, glad to see you're going to be trained and read! We're proud of you and Becky, and look forward to "the moment!" Love, Dad

So glad you took the chance to write Terrance. I enjoyed your post and it was very heartfelt.
My first post was explaining why I decided to start a blog. I have since stopped blogging but continue to keep up with the friends I have made. Maybe one day I will start writing again.

Hi Terence! I think my first post was about my two boys attempting to shovel our driveway after a huge storm! Nothing newsworthy but fun for me to watch.

Just wait - soon you'll be thinking like a blogger, carrying a camera around and you'll be doing something so average. Then the idea will pop in your head that you "should blog about this!" It'll happen sooner than you think! :)

You did a great job on your first post. I'm a twin too and my twin is always suggesting things I can blog about or show something in my house (she's in the middle of a major remodel so doesn't post her home much) and I'm always telling her I think I'd bore the readers. It's a struggle for me. You have a baby on the way so you'll have plenty of "material". Can't wait to see the new addition.

I think that's so sweet that you wrote an entry on your wife's blog :) Now onto the questions:

I've kept an online journal for a long time. My blogger is something new that i've started but i'm pretty sure my first entries would have been an about me entry so that anyone who fell upon my journal could get to know me a bit. Every time I write I sometimes have the same writers block as you did but sometimes I know exactly what I want to say and it just flows out.
